About

Wendy Matkin

Lifelong learner, passionate about utilizing technology and creativity to help engage employees, and leaders, to meet challenges, and grow. From my first teenage job at Express, sales have been an integral part of my life. I’ve had a successful career in commission-only outside sales, building sales teams, and leading state sales teams. My success in sales, and ability to replicate that success for my teams through training, led to my first national sales trainer role. My career path then focused on bridging learning and development to front-line employees. Whether in the field, plant, retail location, or call center, I use my experience and the learners’ lens to drive better learning engagement, knowledge, retention, and growth by creating fun and informative courses online, in-person, and virtually.

I returned to school to complete my degree in Strategic Corporate Communications and tacked on Public Relations to solidify my ability to deliver truly unified messaging internally and externally. My newest skillset paired with my extensive sales and training background moved me into a group of specialized individuals that possess a unique blend of being highly driven, out-going, empathic, and strategic.

I have spent the last 10 years formulating strategies that drive both sales goals and corporate learning and development initiatives to deliver a better customer experience.

I believe alignment is necessary for enablement. From cascading corporate goals downline to explaining the “why” behind the “how or what” is happening, a unified voice across segments can create alignment and fully enable employees to learn what they need, when they need it. This approach plays a vital role in ramping up sales reps and the continued development of reps in the field, behind a register, or in a call center. Collaboration plays a key role in accomplishing cross segment alignment and sharing of data. Utilizing this data with the brilliance of AI, allows me to quickly deliver learning solutions and sales-enabling training programs to meet the needs.

While focusing strongly on the organization’s needs, I also strive to make the most out of people’s talents and help them develop to their full potential. Balancing these priorities strengthened my belief in, and my focus on creating agile custom Leadership Development (LD) programs and Sales LD programs. Leaders, like successful salespeople, must be able to pivot quickly. Off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all leadership development programs can no longer be depended on to teach emerging leaders the needed soft skills, forward-thinking, tech heavy, strategic problem-solving, and decision-making skills that they need today. By using strategic design, agile programs can be centered on the needs of the business today, embracing change, and the skills needed to lead teams into the future. This design process also capitalizes on each company’s in-house subject matter experts (SME) to help craft and deliver training sessions – because who better to learn from than those who, either created the systems/programs, run them, maintain them, or forecast them? Tapping internal talent also engages and empowers those SMEs by showcasing their knowledge and furthering their own development by giving them opportunities to gain new skills in content creation, learning new teaching platforms, forecasting relevant topics, and communication skills. Growth matters to everyone, strategic alignment helps us all accomplish more while working towards achieving the shared corporate goals.

My ability to engage all levels makes me a great collaborator who can objectively balance differing opinions, smartly problem-solve with influence, and never lose focus or my smile. While the growing power of technology can keep me busy behind a computer, I am equally comfortable as the face of training experiences, frequently facilitating sessions on camera, and in-person, with energy, humor and authority. I live by the saying, “still learning” because we should never stop learning! Learning is growth.
